Please list some history. Street names and who they are named after. A school came and wanted to know some of the people we found a few. Thanks

I just happened to stumble across this site and it truly is an amazing find. I grew up in good old Cavalier Manor but have been gone for three years now. My concern now is that I have recently heard of the Cavalier Manor Recreational Center is closing the pool. I hope that isn't true.

I am currently a student studying architecture and I have considered making that site my thesis project. I was hoping that if anyone here knows of anyone who I could be in touch with for more information regarding the area, your help would be greatly appreciated. It would be my pleasure to give back to the community what it has given to me so many years ago.

I only left Cavalier Manor for 8 yrs. I got to move back into the house I grew up in and I'm still there. Lots of great memories all the years spent living in this area.

Thanks for the memories

I love this site !! I have to tell more people about it. I too grew up in Cavalier Manor. Born and raised. I attended Cavalier Manor Elementary, Lakeview, Waters Jr. High, Manor High School (freshman Year) and graduated from I.C. Norcom High School. I remember the 7-11 store, the pool and the two big white pillars on the corner of Roosevelt and Cavalier Blvd. It would be great to talk with other people who grew up in the Manor !!

I am a longtime Cavalier Manor resident. My parents moved out to Cavalier Manor back in November 1957 having been living here for over 50 years.

I was raised, grew up in Portsmouth, attended public school and have resided here most of my life.

My mother Mrs. Jean B. Wright was a member of the Police Community Relations (PCR) for many years and drove the Cavalier Manor Patrol car for about a decade (1982-1992). She was a very active and dedicated force in the community. I used to go on patrol with my mother many years ago observing suspicious activity and my mom would report it to authorities.

My mom implemented the slogan “Put Christ first, so Crime won’t last.” Very inspirational!

My mother passed away last year on January 9, 2008. I cannot think of another person who was dedicated to driving that patrol car more than my mother. She is irreplaceable in all aspects and will be greatly missed.

I have not even seen that patrol car driving around at all in quite sometime.

The Cavalier Manor neighborhood seems like it is changing for the worst I would say. We have a different breed of people moving out here now unfortunately.

Hey Sharron! I went to Moffett in the 6th grade also. Remember Mr. Hill or Miss Perry? Those were the days in that old raggedy school. Remember Academy Park? High's Ice Cream? Earle's Market, Burger King? Miracle Lanes? Portsmouth Bowl?, etc. ....................

Hey Sharron! We used to stop by 7 11 on the way to Waters each morning. Yeah, the Texaco was right next door. Remember there was a ditch all along Cavalier Blvd. that has now been sealed. I am interested in conversating with anyone from the old school. Iwent to Craddock in the 9th Grade when they had freedom-of-choice. I spent the next three years at the original Wilson on Willett Drive graduating in 1972. I spent one summer school at I.C. Norcom in Mr. Wyche's math class that I failed. I'm at Cshifu@aol.com.

I just visited the Manor again in October 2008. Unfortunately, my mother, Sadie Buck, known to most of the Manor as "Miss Sadie, passed away. I still have fond memories of the Manor and find it irresistible to ride around reminiscing about what used to be. There are so many changes now. I'm from the old school and went to Waters with Nate McCall. Names from back in the day - Scobie Dee Garrett, Arnold Garrett, Skinny Pimp, Lil Lo, Baby Joe, RatMan, Casey, Plaza, Melvin Purdue, Ronald Black, Larry Black, Winston Black, Terry Lee, Kenny Banks. . . . . brothers from all over the Manor when there was Victory Manor and Lincoln Gardens too. I could name 100s of other names. If you read this or know some of the people mentioned they can reach me at my email address.

Hello All, I used to live in Cavalier Manor 1405 Stratford Street from 1965 - 1973 next door to Gary U.S. Bonds. My older brother was James S. Ellis Jr. (White Mouse) he grew up with Nathan McCall. My father was James S. Ellis Sr. (Hawk) It was good to read all of your postings. I recently visited the old neighborhood about 3 years ago. I was real young at the time but I still remember a lot. I also got a lot of information from my older brother & father before they passed away. Later!

Hello Cavalier Manor Friends and Family,

Yes, I also lived in the Manor. My parents still live there (Belefonte Court). Chucky Purfoy is still next door, Carl Jones family still lives down the street. Remember the 7/11 or the Texaco that was once on Cavalier Blvd. Moffit Place? Tower Mall? The woods before there was a Lakeview Elem.
Local Hero Carl Brashear had a ship named after him and the ceremony was held here in San Diego, it brought back many fond memories of home.
Good Job, Much Love,
One of Those Edwards Girls
